Yoga teacher and Specialist Dietitian based in Clarkston

Mari Ward is a certified Vinyasa Flow and Restorative Yoga teacher, and a Registered Dietitian.

After 22 years of doing yoga, meditation and relaxation with incredible teachers from the Scotland, France and America, I’ve come full cirle now, teaching in the very hall in Clarkston where I attended my very first yoga class.

I went to my first yoga class at the age of 22 to try and deal with the stress and anxiety of my final year at university. Even after that one class I felt calmer, positive and hopeful and I have been practising yoga ever since.

Over the years, I have practiced many styles of yoga including Hatha, Iyengar, Yin, Vinyasa flow and Restorative yoga and learned the benefits are as much mental and emotional as they are physical. So after 20 years of attending classes, retreats, mindfulness training and doing Foundation courses with Yoga Scotland and TSYP (follows teachings of Krishnamacharya and Desikachar), I took the plunge and underwent my Yoga Alliance certified teacher training with the wonderful Shanti Yoga studio in Finneston, Glasgow.

Since qualifying, I have taught in various yoga studios and gyms in Glasgow and Lanarkshire, as well as running 8 week beginners classes for the lovely staff of the NHS as part of their Healthy Working Lives programme. I currently run my own morning and evening yoga classes in Clarkston. For details click here

Running alongside my love of yoga is my love of food, nutrition and health. Through my 16 years’ experience as a NHS Dietitian, I’ve worked in both physical and mental health environments dealing with a whole host of health issues and specialising in various areas of Mental Health.

I have used yoga and nutrition to help manage and overcome my own long term health conditions. As I’ve seen first hand how powerful these tools can be, I am super passionate about sharing this knowledge to improve people’s wellbeing to help them feel positive and healthy in their lives and work places.

Using these specialist areas of expertise, I have designed individually tailored diet, mindful eating and/or lifestyle plans for clients to help improve health conditions and more importantly enhance their confidence and quality of life.
