Mariposa Yoga Nutrition Wellbeing is run by me, Mari Ward
I am a certified Vinyasa Flow and Restorative Yoga teacher and a Registered Dietitian.
I went to my first yoga class at the age of 22 to try and deal with the stress and anxiety of my final year at university. I floated out that class feeling positive and hopeful and I have been practising yoga ever since. Over the years, I have practiced many styles of yoga including Hatha, Iyengar, Yin, Vinyasa flow and Restorative yoga and learned the benefits are as much mental and emotional as they are physical. So after 20 years of attending classes and retreats and doing Foundation courses with Yoga Scotland and TSYP (follows teachings of Krishnamacharya and Desikachar) , I took the plunge and underwent my Yoga Alliance certified teacher training with the wonderful Shanti Yoga studio in Finneston, Glasgow.
Running alongside my love of yoga is my love of food, nutrition and health. Through my 15 years’ experience as a NHS Dietitian, I’ve worked in both physical and mental health environments dealing with a whole host of health issues. I am also passionate about cooking and am always looking for ways to balance modern living with sustainable eating and lifestyle.
I have used yoga and nutrition to help manage and overcome my own long term health conditions. As I’ve seen first hand the power of these, I am super passionate about improving people’s wellbeing through yoga, nutrition and nature, to help them feel positive and healthy in their lives and work places.
As well as teaching classes (click here) , I can also be contacted for group/private sessions or bespoke wellbeing days for organisations or corporate events. This can be for yoga or nutrition or a combination of both.
